Did we enjoy our day at the British F1 Grand Prix ? Of course we did, however, the Inner Track was totally compromised compared to previous years. Access was vastly reduced and facilities were minimal. We normally stand on the embankment down track from Copse and we are able to visit the garages, see various cars and talk to owners, mechanics, etc. None of this was available to us. We had to wonder why on earth we had paid the usual extra fee for the Inner Track pass. The layout of access within the inner track was only emailed to us the very morning following the midnight deadline to transfer tickets to next years Grand Prix. When the Government finally announced that the event could go ahead the MD of Silverstone was interviewed on television and during that interview he stated that Silverstone was such a huge venue and implied that because of its size the 140,000 attendees would be pretty much safe from the spread of Covid. Also those attending would have to show proof of either 2 vaccinations or a negative test result. I have to tell you that not only were there virtually no checks on compliance with these requirements, the area of the inner track was massively reduced and we felt herded into a not so safe environment. Last Thursday morning I was "pinged" on the NHS App indicating that I had had contact with someone having Covid and requested to isolate for 7 days. Counting back it would appear that I may well have had this contact at Silverstone !! Had we been informed of the vastly reduced inner track area prior to the midnight deadline I think we would certainly have given consideration to transferring our tickets to next year. So it has to be said that the email received about the inner track, the morning following the deadline was, to say the least, "underhand". One further matter regarding security at entry, our bags were certainly not properly searched. I could have taken in a loaded gun, it was that slack !! Enjoyed the day and the result. Well done Lewis ! But far from happy with the points mentioned. Silverstone need to address these matters for next year's event. Will they respond please ??
